It uses latest Equinox P2 technology to correctly integrate Foglyn plugins into applications based on Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) or Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) platforms.</p> <p>Foglyn Installer is a standalone single-download setup program which contains latest version of Foglyn and Mylyn. By downloading and running one file, it is possible to install Foglyn into any number of Eclipse applications, and also keep a backup copy for the future.</p> <p><a href="../download.html">Download Foglyn Installer Now!</a></p> <h3>Why use Foglyn Installer?</h3> <ul> <li>Installer runs with administrative privileges on Windows. Thanks to this, it can update applications in system location like <code>C:\Program Files</code>. Standard update mechanism fails in this case. This is useful when installing Foglyn into applications like Adobe Flex Builder, Aptana Studio, Zend Studio, etc.</li> <li>Installer works offline. You can use it to update any number of applications without wasting your network bandwidth. Since it includes Mylyn, you can also use Foglyn Installer for updating Mylyn to latest version.</li> <li>Installer can add Foglyn into Eclipse 3.4 and Eclipse 3.5. It always uses update mechanism from latest version of Eclipse, which works much better than update mechanism in Eclipse 3.4 (Galileo).</li> </ul> <p>Foglyn Installer is available from <a href="../download.html">Download</a> section.</p> <h3>How does Foglyn installer work?</h3> <p>When Foglyn Installer starts, it automatically searches for your applications in predefined locations.</p> <p style="text-align: center"> <img src="searching-for-eclipse-apps.png" alt="Foglyn Installer searches for Eclipse applications" /> </p> <p>You can choose application where Foglyn will be installed.</p> <p style="text-align: center"> <img src="select-target-application.png" alt="Select target application" /> </p> <p>After selecting target application, you will see what version of Foglyn and Mylyn is already installed, and which versions are available for installation. You can select components to install, although setup program is smart enough to preselect reasonable defaults, so simply clicking Next will work in majority of cases. </p> <p style="text-align: center"> <img src="components-to-install.png" alt="Select components for installation" /> </p> <p>In the next step Foglyn Installer will compute the installation plan, and show it to you for confirmation. Installation is complete now.</p> <p style="text-align: center"> <img src="installation-successful.png" alt="Installation succeeded" /> </p> <p>Why not to <a href="../download.html">try it yourself?</a></p> <h3>Possible problems</h3> <p>Please run your target application at least once before using Foglyn Installer. In some cases, not all plugins that are part of application are already in installed state, and this installation finishes on first run. This step is normally invisible for the user, but may cause confusion for Foglyn Installer.</p> <p>Installer tries to locate your P2 profile and update it. This procedure works with many Eclipse distributions and commercial applications, but it doesn't work when application uses shared profile. In such case you may get error message saying that it isn't possible to update the application. When this happens, you need to use other means for installing additional plugins.</p> <p> In some rare cases, Foglyn Installer will compute an installation plan which suggests removing entire application. In situation like this, Installer will require your explicit confirmation before continuing, and <em>Next</em> button will be disabled. Usually this is not what you want. When this happens, please return back to component selection screen and deselect all Mylyn components for installation.
